The 18th Annual General Meeting of the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Association of Sri Lanka was held on October 27, 2023, in Colombo, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Association. The membership of the SIYB Association consists of SIYB Partner Organizations as Corporate Members, SIYB licensed trainers, and SIYB licensed master trainers. All these three types of members attended this AGM. The SIYB Association was established in November 2003 as a successor of the Swedish International Development Agency-funded ILO-SIYB Sri Lanka Project of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The President of the SIYB Association Mr. Hilmy Ishak chaired AGM and started with lighting the traditional oil lamp. In his welcome speech, Mr. Hilmy Ishak welcomed all the AGM participants and thanked those who made it to the AGM. His special thanks were due to those SIYB Members who had come from the far North and East of the country. He appreciated all those members who contributed to the overwhelming financial performance of the Association during the financial year 2022/2023. And special thanks were extended to the International Labour Organization, and the Ministry of Education for their trust and confidence in the SIYB Association. In his speech, Mr. Hilmy Ishak made it a point to stress the importance of adapting digital technology and embracing ICT to define the Association's future course of action to be ahead of time to meet the demands of the present younger generation.
The minutes of the previous AGM were presented by the Hon. General Secretary Ms. Rukmani Rathnayaka, and the financial report for the period 2022/2023 was presented by the Hon. Treasurer Mr. Ananda Wijekoon, and the program progress presented by the Acting CEO was adopted by the general body of the AGM. During this financial year, the SIYB Association has achieved remarkable progress and achieved its highest revenue for the past 20 years.
As per the constitution, corporate members, SIYB trainers, and SIYB master trainers nominated three representatives each for the new Executive Council of the SIYB Association for the year 2023/2024. From these nominees, the following office bearers were appointed for the year 2023/2024: Ms. Rukmani Rathnayaka as the Hon. President - this is the first time a female member is appointed as the President of the SIYB Association, Ms. Maheswary Pathirathna as the Hon. General Secretary, Mr. Indrasiri Weganthalawaththa as the Hon. Treasurer, Mr. Udaya Kumara Fernando as the Hon 1 st Vice President, Mr. Sanath Mallawarachchi as the Hon. 2 nd Vice President, Ms. Dhamitha Narasinghe as the Joint Secretary, Ms. Anusha Rathnayaka as the Editor, Mr. Srimal Jayathilaka as the Hon. Member, and Mr. S. H. Burhanudeen as the Hon. Member.
