The revamped website of the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Association of Sri Lanka was launched on August 29, 2024, at Hotel Janaki, Colombo. The occasion was graced by the National Project Coordinator of the International Labour Organization, Mr. Erandika Dissanayake, and the Hon. President of the SIYB Association Ms. Rukmani Rathnayake. The members of the Executive Council of the SIYB Association, the SIYB Master Trainers, and the SIYB Trainers joined the event at the venue and virtually.
The SIYB Association of Sri Lanka is a national umbrella organization of the major public, non-governmental, and private sector business support service providers for micro-, small-, and medium-scale enterprises (MSME). The SIYB Association has been affiliated with the International Labour Organization’s Global SIYB Program for 20 years. The direct target group of the SIYB Program is the BDS Organizations who are given technical assistance from the SIYB Association to implement the SIYB Program independently and effectively.
Mr. Indrasiri Weganthalawaththa, Hon. Treasurer of the SIYB Association welcomed all the invitees for their presence and extended support to the association.
Hon. President Ms. Rukmani Rathnayake briefed the gathering on the achievements of the association since November 2023 and outlined the key steps planned. She said that the SIYB Association was in the process of strategizing its existence to reposition in the national and international MSME ecosystem. She further revealed that the SIYB Association has initiated consulting a ‘think-tank’ to understand the ecosystem so that SIYB Association could be able to address the demand suiting the current context.
Mr. Hilmy Ishak, Chief Executive Officer of the SIYB Association, briefed the audience on the process followed in the revamping of the website along with the features in-built, and how the website could be better utilized for the engagement of the members and the stakeholders of the SIYB Association.
After unveiling the revamped website, which was designed and developed to cater to the needs and demands of the digital and social media requirement at present, the Chief Guest, Mr. Erandika Dissanayake congratulated the SIYB Association for being able to absorb the demands of the present context and come up with this revamped website. He took the audience through the dynamics of the MSME ecosystem, especially the needs for the services demanded by the present generation, and how it was important for the SIYB Association to embrace changes within its business model. He highlighted how the generations after the new millennium were looking at entrepreneurship and how the SIYB Association could strategize its future.
