The SIYB Association of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Colombo, is fostering entrepreneurial spirit among undergraduates aspiring to launch their businesses. Under the leadership of Professor D. L. P. M. Rathnasinghe, Director of the Career Guidance Unit, this partnership offers a series of structured events designed to cultivate entrepreneurial skills and support students in achieving their startup ambitions.
The inaugural event, "Way To Business: Become a Job Creator," was held on January 30, 2025, at the Department of Economics Auditorium, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo. Hosted by Mr. Gemunu Wijesena, Hon. Vice President of the SIYB Association of Sri Lanka, renowned SIYB Master Trainer, and Business Consultant, the event inspired 23 undergraduates (21 of whom were women) from the Faculties of Arts, Management & Finance, Science & Technology, and Indigenous Medicine. These students, all with defined life and career goals, were encouraged by Mr. Wijesena to embrace the role of "Job Creators" rather than "Job Seekers."
Moving forward, the SIYB Association will work closely with the Career Guidance Unit to nurture these aspiring entrepreneurs. The "Generate Your Business (GYB) Idea" program will help them develop concrete business ideas, followed by the "Start Your Business (SYB)" program to transform these ideas into viable startups.
The SIYB Association is impressed by the innovative business ideas already demonstrated by these undergraduates, recognizing them as the next generation of promising entrepreneurs.
