The SIYB Association of Sri Lanka concluded its 19th Annual General Meeting on November 2, 2024, at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo 03. Mr. Kithsiri Dharmapriya, Chairman of the National Aquaculture Development Authority of Sri Lanka, graced the event as the Chief Guest. A founding member and a senior SIYB Master Trainer, Mr. Dharmapriya's presence added significance to the occasion.
Over 80 members, including SIYB Partner Organizations, licensed SIYB trainers, and licensed SIYB master trainers, attended the AGM. The SIYB Association, a national umbrella organization, is pivotal in fostering entrepreneurship and supporting MSMEs in Sri Lanka and the Asian region. Established in 2003, the Association is affiliated with the International Labour Organization and the Global SIYB Program.
The SIYB Program empowers MSMEs through partnerships with 70 business support service organizations across Sri Lanka. Over 450 training professionals deliver SIYB training to micro and small entrepreneurs in all three languages. This extensive network ensures a consistent and high-quality approach to business development services.
Outgoing President Ms. Rukmani Rathnayake highlighted the Association's significant financial performance and the implementation of various systems during her tenure. Mr. Dharmapriya emphasized the crucial role of BDS professionals in supporting the country's economic growth, particularly in the current context.
The AGM marked several important milestones, including the certification of 15 SIYB Licensed Trainers and the launch of the official SIYB T-shirt. The newly elected Executive Council for the year 2024/2025 is led by President Mr. Rajesh Kanna, with Mr. Gemunu Wijesena as Vice President, Ms. Maheswary Pathirathna as General Secretary, and Mr. Ananda Wijekoon as Treasurer. The other members of the Executive Council are Mr. Sudharshan Augustin, Ms. Mangalika Wanasundera, Ms. S. Tharshini, Mr. Srimal Jayathilaka, and Mr. S. H. Burhanudeen.
